# ontology identification problem

The AI-alignment problem of identifying, within an agent's world model or other representation, the entities, properties, or categories to which an alignment target or objective is intended to refer, and of preserving those referents when the representation or assumed ontology changes; it includes both unknown-representation cases and unknown-substrate cases.
