# technology explosion

A large and sustained increase in society's rate of scientific and technological progress caused by abundant AI cognitive labor and automated R&D, potentially compressing very large amounts of research progress into a short period. It is distinct from an intelligence explosion in AI capability and from an industrial explosion in physical production, though the three can reinforce one another.
